Dr Gary Stiefel

MBChB, BMedSci, FRCPCH, MSc Allergy

Gary undertook his medical training at the University of Birmingham and in 2012 completed specialist training in Paediatric Allergy.   During his training he worked at both St Mary’s Hospital, London and University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust and also completed an Allergy MSc at Imperial College London.

My Story

Gary was the lead author for the BSACI national guidelines on nut allergy and was involved in changing the legislation allowing schools to be able to hold generic Adrenaline Autoinjectors alongside Allergy UK and Anaphylaxis UK. In 2020 he led a national British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) RCPCH study into FPIES. He is actively involved in peanut desensitisation studies and currently recruiting patients for The Natasha Clinical Trial offering milk and peanut oral immunotherapy.

Gary has previously served as a RCPCH specialist advisory committee members for Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (2014-2019). He has been a trustee for Allergy UK since 2019 and is the current Health Advisory Board Chair since October 2024.

Gary is actively involved in teaching locally & regionally and regularly lectures on the Allergy MSc at University of Southampton. His interests include food allergy, eczema, allergic rhinitis (including hay fever) and oral and aeroallergen immunotherapy.

Gary is a member of the BSACI (British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) and the EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology).
